Talisker is the only distillery on the famous Isle of Skye and was built in 1833. The distillery is now owned by Diageo and it produces around 2,600,000 litres of whisky per year. The water source is a local burn near the distillery.

In 2007 Talisker 18 Years Old won “Best Single Malt in the World 2007′ in the World Whisky Awards presented by The Whisky Magazine. In 2006 it was also named 2006 Malt Maniacs winner. It has been matured for over 18 years in casks that previously held bourbon and sherry. Recommended to share this one with good company and a plate of smoked salmon, oysters and prawns.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: An astounding array of orchard fruits, ripe plums, raisins and figs. Some orange citrus and ginger root, freshly squeezed apples, some earthy smoke leads to more of a charred oak.

Palate: Rich coffee beans, smouldering oak, orange peel, allspice, freshly cracked black pepper and balanced spice.

Finish: Long and fruity with peat smoke and peppery spice with charred oak.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich and fruity – Victoria plums, greengages, perhaps dried orange peel – with some butterscotch or rum toffee and a thread of smoke behind. The smoke soon advances into the foreground and the toffee note is joined by a light mintiness. With water, appropriately, maritime characteristics emerge – dry boat varnish, edible seaweed. Still sweet; now with notes of iodine and the smokiness of an un-struck match.

Taste: Sweet in front, then more assertive, with a whiff of smoke. The overall effect is warming. The development is towards smoke, coal-tar and toffee.

Finish: Medium length. Talisker’s characteristic chilli ‘catch’ in the finish is subtly present. Some smoke in the aftertaste.
