The Glenglassaugh Distillery stands at the east end of Sandend bay approximately two miles to the west of Portsoy. It was here on the banks of the Glassaugh burn and in an area known to have been previously favoured by illicit distillers that local entrepreneur and businessman James Moir built the distillery in 1875. In 2007 a group of investors, who were also whisky enthusiasts, were looking for a whisky distillery with heritage and one that produced top quality single malt scotch whisky. Their trail led them to Glenglassaugh and soon after a deal was done to purchase the distillery. On the 29th February 2008 the keys were officially handed over to the newly formed “Glenglassaugh Distillery Company Limited” and a new chapter for this illustrious distillery began. In 2013, the BenRiach Distillery Company took over Glenglassaugh distillery with the intention to bring this iconic distillery fully back to life by giving it the investment, commitment and care it deserves. In only three years they managed to spark the interestes of one of the worlds largest spirit producers Brown Forman who purchased the distillery in 2016.

Master Distiller, Billy Walker, has carefully selected a number of casks to be bottled as the Glenglassaugh Octaves Peated. Rich peated malted barley has been used then after distillation the spirit has been matured in octave casks, made from  staves of a used cask, that are approximately 1/8th the size of a butt. A smaller cask allows for more interaction between the wood and the spirit, giving the whisky a great depth of flavour in a short period of time. Bottled at 44%, non chill filtered and natural colour.
