Attention all Macallan fans, can’t find enough perfectly matured sherry cask matured single malt Scotch whisky? Then let me introduce you to The GlenDronach. This distillery is said to have some of the most exceptionally sherry cask matured whisky in the world and at a third of the price.

This GlenDronach ‘Grandeur’ has been aged for no less than 28 years in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks (I’d say more PX influence than Oloroso). It has also been constructed by Master Blender Rachel Barrie who is very particular about the barrels she selects for this range.

“The GlenDronach Grandeur is an unparalleled range of the finest aromas and character from masterful Spanish oak sherry cask maturation,” Rachel said in a statement. “A single malt of elegant finesse, this expression offers a symphony of sherry aromatics interwoven with dark manuka honey, roasted almond and walnut. It is intense and full-bodied, as is the signature of The GlenDronach, with a crescendo of black cherry and espresso adorning each mouthful.” Sounds delicious.

With only 3,181 bottles in the entire world available of The GlenDronach Grandeur batch 11 this whisky is not only value for money but simply a stunning collectable item that will present as a wonderful investment.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Freshly toasted walnuts, roasted coffee beans, dark tea and orange jellies, hints of Manuka honey and new leather. There’s also a soft smoke, perhaps barrel char or just the oak from the 28 years in the barrel.

Palate: Lively and lush, nutty with brandy soaked cherries, hints of tropical fruit notes and baked dark fruits, dried orange peel and significantly balance oak. There’s also a perfectly positioned pinch of white pepper.

Finish: Long and full of life, bold sherry notes and charred citrus, satisfying and fruity and extremely hard to put down.
