Description

Caol Ila Aged 12 Years Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Chorlton Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml                 ABV: 57.7%          Age: 12 Years Old             Country: Scotland

A relatively new Indie bottler with very interesting and colourful designs on the labels. Some fantastic spirit within the actual bottlings, it’s a range of whiskies that you cannot overlook, normally bottled undiluted, uncoloured, unchillfiltered, cask strength and a limited run, all leading to great reviews across the board.

The Caol Ila Distillery, The name Caol Ila comes from the Gaelic ‘Caol Ila’ meaning ‘Sound of Islay’ which is the stretch of water which separates Islay from Jura. The distillery was founded in 1846 and has been very successful through its long history. The distillery draws water from the nearby loch which is surrounded by myrtle and heather. As did most distilleries it closed during the Great Depression from 1930 to 1937 and was reconstructed from 1972 to 1974. Juggling between old traditional methods and modern methods of using new technology. This distillery produces whiskies that have chocolate, citrus and floral notes as well as tangy and peaty, which is typical of an Islay whisky.

This single malt whisky was distilled on the 16th of February 2009 at the Caol Ila distillery before being placed in a single Sherry Hogshead and left to mature for 12 years. It was bottled at 57.7% abv with only 269 bottles being produced for worldwide enjoyment.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Manuka honey notes, sea spray, smoked meats and tarry ropes, garden herbs and gingerbread men.

Palate: Smoked brisket, barbecue sauce, liquorice root, dark chocolate and orange lollies.

Finish: Long, soft smoke, salted caramel and slightly herbal. A superb whisky indeed.
