Description

Bunnahabhain 40 Years Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 41.9%           Age: 40 Years Old           Country: Scotland

The Bunnahabhain Distillery is the most northerly and remote on the island of Islay and was opened in 1883 to make use of excess grain from local farmers. The name Bunnahabhain translates as ‘mouth of the river’ and if you ever visit will see that the distillery is built near the mouth of the River Margadale which flows into the Sound of Islay. Pronounced Bú-na-ha-venn, this Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky is quite distinct from the many others on the island, given the wonderfully gentle taste profile for which it is known. Water is piped in from from Margadale Springs and the whisky is distilled twice in the distillery’s unusual pear-shaped pot stills

It’s not all that easy to find a well aged Islay single malt whisky these days. This 40 year old Islay single malt has been maturing in a combination of ex-bourbon American oak sherry barrels and ex-sherry barrels for four decades. An outstanding offering from the Bunnahabhain distillery and well worth experiencing the fruity and oak notes this whisky is famous for.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Soft ripe banana’s, summer berries and toasted chestnuts, creamy vanilla toffee, and wonderful oak sweetness.

Palate: Creamy sweet malted barley, toasted nuts, summer berries, caramel, vanilla pods and well balanced tropical fruit notes throughout.

Finish: Tropical fruits remain and balance with oak and vanilla, long and delicious.
