Description

Tasting Notes:
The cuvée is sourced from grand cru Chardonnay vineyards owned by the house in the village of Cramant in the Côtes des Blancs.

Although all the grapes for the new Mumm Blanc de Blancs come from the same vintage, the cuvée is classed as a non-vintage because of the decision to age the wine only briefly on the lees in order to accentuate the fresh, citrus flavours of the Cramant Chardonnay.

The house has also sought to emphasise the softness of the mousse by bottling the Champagne under a lower pressure of 4.5 bars, instead of the standard 6 bars.

In tribute to the former Mumm de Cramant, which was originally kept back as a private cuvée, the new Mumm Blanc de Blancs retains the folded down label design in its top right corner to represent the visiting card attached to bottles when they were hand delivered to family friends.

Tasting Notes:
In 1882, the House of G.H.MUMM acquired vines in Cramant, one of the finest growing areas on the Côte des Blancs. Its chalky soil lends itself to the cultivation of Chardonnay grapes so fine as to make a wine from a single grape variety. Born of a single variety and a single vineyard, for a long time the vintage was set aside for friends of the House. In keeping with the etiquette of the time, it was handed over in person, accompanied by a carefully folded visiting card.

As the pure expression of a terroir distilled through the expertise of the House, this wine is distinctive in a multitude of ways. Made with a single grape variety from a single vineyard, it also perpetuates the Champagne’s “demi-mousse” tradition. This type of champagne possesses a delicate effervescence, because its pressure is lower than that of other champagnes (4.5 bar). The low dosage (6g/l) is also attuned with the mineral purity of its character.
