Description

Longrow Red Aged 13 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon Matured (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 51.6%           Age: 13 Years Old           Country: Scotland

The first distillation of Longrow was carried out as an experiment when the Springbank Chairman set out to prove that it was possible to produce an Islay-style single malt whisky on the mainland. This experiment produced a whisky so special that Longrow was distilled again a few years later and has become an important part of the Mitchell’s portfolio, with regular distillation having taken place since 1992.

The barley used in the production of Longrow is entirely peat dried, giving the whisky a wonderfully smokey, peaty character, Longrow is also double distilled. The entire process is carried out at the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland. The whisky is named after the old Longrow distillery which stood adjacent to Springbank and Longrow CV is the latest addition to the range, complementing the existing 10 and 14 year old bottling’s.

The Longrow Red releases have become one of the most sought after annual releases on the whisky calendar. The use of unusual and extremely complimentary barrel in the maturation process make even tasting this whisky a luxury. In the past we have seen Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Port, Australian Shiraz casks and Pinot Cask from New Zealand being used to mature the Longrow red bottling’s. The only problem the whisky world has it that only around 100 casks are filled each year for Longrow Red releases making the whisky extremely hard to come by.

This Longrow Red has spent ten years in a combination of ex Bourbon and ex Sherry casks, it was then transferred for a final three years maturation in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels sourced from MontGras’ Intriga Estate in Alto Maipo, which is situated at the foot of the Andes in Chile. Only 9000 bottles are available for worldwide distribution and our allocation for Australia was extremely low.
