The Single Malts Of Scotland range is brought to us by London based Elixir Distillers. They specialise in independently bottling Japanese and Scottish whisky but also bottle American and Irish whisky from time to time. The company’s three core whisky brands are Elements of Islay, Port Askaig and The Single Malts of Scotland, while it also bottles navy rum under the Black Tot brand. The Single Malts of Scotland range provides independent bottlings of vintage single malt Scotch from many distilleries and at a variety of ages.

A Scottish single malt whisky that was distilled in 2005 at the Ledaig, Island distillery. It was left to mature in cask number 83 for no less than 16 years. The ex-Bourbon oak of the cask has imparted some exciting aromas and flavours. Plenty of savoury character and delicious smoke are balanced by touches of fruit and florals. Bottled in 2021 at 53% ABV and boasting only 226 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Savoury-sweet aromas float in: chipotle-and-maple-syrup smoked bacon, followed by chocolate covered salted caramel sweets. Ripened persimmons and a vase of fresh lilacs follow on.

Palate: Some salinity, with notes of dry roasted peanuts and cornichons. This is balanced by some tart fruitiness – that of tangerines – which leads on to comforting baking spices.

Finish: A hint of charred pineapple remains, accented by some subtle mace.
