Description

Lagg Distillery Inaugural Release Batch #1 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml            ABV: 50%           Age: No Age Statement           Country: Scotland

For hundreds of years, to increase their income, small Arran communities made their own spirit in illicit home-made stills. The resulting whisky, which became known as ‘Arran Waters’, was smuggled from Lagg and sold on mainland Scotland. In 2017, Arran Distillers began building their distillery and its magnificent visitor centre. Two years later, they’ve opened their doors to the waiting world. The architects have created a spectacular building to echo the contours of Arran as you’d see it from Ailsa Craig. Its dramatic roofs are covered with a sedum blanket. This contains a mix of plants that change colour with the seasons. The Lagg copper pot stills which are custom-made were installed on the distillery floor in August 2018, and now sit proudly alongside the mash tun and four traditional wooden washbacks.

The first middle cut of spirit was recorded at 14.35 on Tuesday 19th March 2019 and no we bring you the first ever release or Lagg Distilleries Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Using Concerto barley sourced from the North East of Scotland which is then peated to 50PPM (phenol parts per million). After being double distilled the peated smoky spirit is placed into 100% first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels to rest and mature. Overseen by distillery manager Graham Omand the spirit is cared for and nurtured through its maturation cycle. This inaugural release has been bottled non Chill filtered and with natural colour at 50% alcohol by volume. With only 10,000 bottle released for the entire whisky family around the world. The journey starts here.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Tinned orchard fruits, bursts with citrus and lychee, tropical fruit notes of banana and pineapple, some hints of pear and forest floor, damp mossy green notes but bold notes of bonfire embers.

Palate: Tropical fruits of pineapple and banana, earthy vegetal peat smoke, slightly creamy with liquorice, white pepper, garden herbs and a touch of medicinal quality.

Finish: Long with ash, medicinal peat smoke, picked vegetables and very well integrated spices.
