The Tin Shed Distillery in Adelaide, South Australia is a place where determination, dedication and an unshakeable belief is starting to pay off. The distillery is all about passion and a spiritual journey. Every step of the process is performed by hand from milling the malt, stirring the mash, making the cut and moving the barrels, to judging which casks to use, bottling, labelling and shipping bottles. The distillery was established in 2013 and has mainly been releasing single cask whisky to this point. Most of the releases are sold out in very short time and become either historic and memorable drams with friends or sit pride of place on a whisky cabinet. The distillery produces three brands of spirit. Iniquity….the whisky, Requiem….the rum and Piotr….the vodka.

The name Flustercluck is a technical term borrowed from the flagpole industry and refers to the fortuitous stuff ups that contributed to this fine whisky. The spirit was mistakenly filled into the cask at a very low 48% ABV. The spirit was made from malt that had been smoked with Tasmanian rather than South Australian peat. The cask was “temporarily” stored for most of its time in the highest and hottest racks just under the roof. The stuff ups kept rolling with delays in packaging and labelling which luckily had no effect on the quality of the liquid inside. What was created was a whisky that expresses the ex Bourbon maturation extremely well and sets the scene for some future stuff ups in the future. Some wonderful things are created from those moments you just didn’t see happening. Bottled at 49.1% ABV and it’s non chill filtered.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Bursting with tropical fruits, pineapple coconut and mango, vanilla oak combines with cinnamon and Creme Brulee. Cocoa and sweet malt.

Palate: Tropical fruits explode from the glass and then combine with sweet toffee and dark chocolate and then there’s the soft well integrated smoke.

Finish: Long and very satisfying, creamy chocolate and buttery pastry with earthy smoke.
