James Eadie Ltd was founded by Rupert Patrick in 2016. Rupert is James Eadie’s great-great-grandson, who has held positions at Diageo, Beam and Ian Macleod Distillers. James Eadie founded a brewery in Burton-on-Trent in 1854, the same year he developed the Trade Mark X Scotch blend. The blend was extremely popular and was sold to Eadie’s chain of public houses throughout the 19th century. In 1933 James’s business was sold to Bass who continued producing the blend till 1947. The resurrection of the blend along with the structuring of the independent bottling company by Rupert means that James Eadie can be remembered again and his past work can be enjoyed once more. The James Eadie Independent bottling’s consist of cask strength selections from various Scottish distilleries. Each bottle describes the distillery, the abv and the date of distillation and bottling as well as the maturation technique.

The Glenlossie Distillery was formed in 1876 and for years was better known as Glenlossie-Glenlivet Distillery Co. It produces approximately 2.7 million litres of malt whisky annually which is mainly used for blends such as Haig Dimple and Haig Gold Label. The distillery is located south of Elgin in the Speyside region which has an abundance of distilleries including BenRiach, Glenfarclas and Macallan. The spirit stills at the distillery use a ‘purifier’ between the lyne arms and the condensers. This purifier acts as a mini-condenser, which returns some of the alcohol vapours back to the pot to be re-distilled. The action of ‘purifiers’ increases the amount of reflux within the stills, which results in a lighter, more delicate whisky. The distillery is owned by Diageo and shares its warehouses with Mannochmore distillery which is located right next door.

This single malt whisky was distilled at the Glenlossie distillery on the 30th of March 2010 before being placed in a single Re-Charred Ex-Bourbon Hogshead and left to mature for about 10 years. In 2020 it was bottled at 54.3% abv as part of the James Eadie Independent bottling ‘Single Cask’ range. Only 343 bottles were produced.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: White chocolate, raspberry coulis and malt milkshakes. Macadamia ice cream and hints of lanolin.

Palate: Pleasant malt spice greets the palate with silky nuance. There’s soft caramels wrapped in a shortcrust pastry. Very drinkable and likeable to many a malt fan.

Finish: Biscuity flavours and citrus cream hold on with a chewy milk bottle lolly character.
