Fleurieu Distillery is situated in Goolwa, South Australia. In 2004 it was formerly known as The Steam Exchange, and rebadged to the Fleurieu Distillery last year. Fleurieu Distillery is about 80km south of Adelaide and just feet from the River Murray on Goolwa Wharf, less than 3km from where Australia’s longest river meets the Southern Ocean. Head Distiller Gareth Andrews says “the ‘maritime’ conditions at Goolwa are ideal for maturing whisky because of its fresh sea breezes, fluctuating temperature range and mild summers”. Andrews added, “All the whisky is matured in port barrels, the distillery’s first whisky release was unpeated, the second peated and the third about half way in between”. “What we’re trying to do is have a family resemblance – a particular flavour that is the Fleurieu Distillery so rather than individually releasing barrels, we take several single malt whisky barrels of ours and blend them into a bigger batch,” Andrews said.

Whisky Kisses is the name of the Fleurieu Distilleries first copper still. It evolved from the joy of bedtime routines of whiskery kisses, stories and big bear hugs with their very young sons who were unable to say whiskery. Hence it became lovingly known as whisky kisses.

Whisky Kisses, the third release from GR Andrews & Sons Fleurieu Distillery is best described as a port-barrel single malt with a hint of peat smoke. Whisky Kisses is a blend of four 100-litre barrels and has typical port-barrel characteristics such as a burnt amber colour carrying forward a nose of raisins, vanilla and toffee apple. The distillery believes this third release captures its signature style of salted caramel, biscuit and toasted nuts with a wisp of peat.

The burnt amber colour carries forward a nose of raisins, spice, vanilla and toffee apple, all typical port barrel characteristics.  It is in this third release that the signature style of salted caramel, biscuit and toasted nuts with just a wisp of peat becomes apparent.  Immerse yourself in the lingering finish of wispy smoke and baked caramel tart. Only 600 bottles produced.
