Tasting Notes:
Some reduced notes on the nose, but elegant eucalyptus, mint and esteva. Mouth showing better. Chocolate and rich prune flavours. Notes of sultana and raisin. On the simple side, but nevertheless a very enjoyable Roêda.

Storage / Handling:
The ideal storage conditions are up to 16º Celsius and most importantly at a constant temperature. The bottle should rest on its side, thus keeping the cork moist and therefore an effective seal. After uncorking the wine, pour in a slow, steady stream into your decanter, carefully watching the emerging liquid to ensure that only the clear wine is poured, leaving the sediment behind.

Serving Suggestions:
Walnuts are an excellent accompaniment to Vintage Port, as are blue veined and other richly flavoured cheeses. So too are dried fruits such as apricots or figs. Alternatively, simply savour the rich and complex flavours of the wine on their own in a generously proportioned glass with good company.

Grape Variety:
A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca Tinta Cão & Tinta Amarela

Notes on Viticultural Year and Harvest:
The 2001-2002 Viticultural year was one of the driest years on record. During the winter almost no rain fell. Besides the dry winter, the temperature was extremely cold, with the Pinhão river at Cruzeiro completely freezing over at Christmas.
The vintage started on the Quintas from the 23rd September, and clear hot weather resulted in very good Ports being made during the two weeks until the rains returned at the beginning of October.

Background Information:
Quinta da Roeda is the cornerstone of Croft’s reputation as a producer of superb Vintage and vintage style Ports. Its characteristically plump, full, vigorously fruity wines, with their hallmark aroma of Gumcistus, the aromatic bush, are the quintessence of the inimitable Croft house style.
In years when a classic Croft vintage port is not declared, the company may choose to select the very best wines from Roeda and bottle a Quinta da Roeda vintage port.

Being the most select wine to come solely from the quinta, a Quinta da Roeda vintage port is the purest expression of the terroir of one of the finest properties in the Douro.

Declared Vintages are the best vintage years which produce wines of great concentration and longevity. They are usually blended from the best produce of more than one estate. Croft’s declared Vintage Ports, although based on the wines of Quinta da Roêda, sometimes also contain wines from other top estates.

Croft is one of the most famous Vintage Port houses and its declared Vintage Ports, such as the legendary 1945 and more recently the award winning Croft 1994 are among the most sought after of all.
