Knockdhu distillery sits in Knock, Aberdeenshire, with this specific location selected to take advantage of the many springs of crystal clear Scottish water. Construction began in 1893, and completed in 1894 where production began in October of that year. The distillery still utilises two tradition pot stills, with the warehouses retaining the traditional earthen floors. It has changed hands several times over the years, however, was purchased by Inverhouse Distillers in 1983, the current owners of the distillery. This whisky used to be called Knockdhu after the distillery where it was produced; but the trading name was changed in 1994 to anCnoc, to avoid confusion with Knockando. anCnoc means ‘the hill’ in Gaelic.

A category winner in the ‘World Whisky Awards 2016’ for best Highland Scotch Whisky Aged 13 to 20 years old. This single malt is produced by the independently owned Knockdhu distillery in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

The whisky enjoys its time maturing in bourbon barrels made from American oak allowing it to adapt some caramel and vanilla notes before enjoying some maturation in ex-sherry European oak which delivers a dark nutty, rich note to this flavoursome spirit. It has been bottled at 46%, unchil-filtered and natural colour. A Single Malt that makes every sip a special occasion.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: The nose opens well in the glass. There’s sherry notes and dark chocolate perhaps cherry ripe and toasted marshmallows. You experience toasted hazelnuts, orange rind and ginger nut biscuits.

Taste: A balance spread of maltiness across the palate, coco powder, mouth coating butterscotch, honey and caramel. Raspberries creep through.

Finish: A long, spicy finish with again smooth caramel, ginger and dark chocolate.
