Description

Amrut Peated Cask Strength Indian Single Malt Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 62.8%           Age: No Age Statement           Country: India

According to Indian Mythology, when Gods and Rakshasas – the demons – churned the oceans using the mountain Meru as a churner, a golden pot sprang out containing the Elixir of Life. That was called the “Amrut”. The great founders of the distillery aptly named it Amrut Distilleries.

Amrut Cask Peated Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky is a product of many years research to produce whiskies matching world standards. The whisky is made from selected Indian barley grown at the feet of the Himalayas, nurtured by the waters flowing there and cultivated by old and traditional agricultural practices. It is carefully mashed and distilled in small batches to preserve the natural aroma and matured in oak barrels in a unique tropical condition, at an altitude of 3,000 feet above sea level at Bangalore, the garden city of India. This exclusive bottling of Amrut Peated Single Malt offers the connoisseur the rare opportunity to sample this Treasure of India

To retain the natural characteristics of this oak aged Indian Malt Whisky, they do not chill filter and it comes straight from the barrel in its natural colour.

This whisky received 92pts in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible and if you are looking to explore the world of Indian Whisky this is a great place to start your journey.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Gristy smoked barley, kippers with a slated butter, peppered bite.

Palate: The delivery is youthful and barley reaching puberty then suddenly an intensely malty ascendancy followed by a healthy dose of drier oaks.

Finish: A sublime finale for its sheer delicacy and elegance; the peat no more than oozes, there are cups galore of sugarless medium roast Mysore and finally, as a bourbon trail is discovered, soft liquorice and molasses sugar – easily the highlight of the experience; one of the best finishes of the year.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: There’s a light peat smoke which is preparing the palate for something special, buttery sweet like barley sugars with tropical fruits, vanilla and pineapple. A touch of water opens up the nose and enhances these aromas.

Palate: Now I’m in India, with nutmeg, lots of tropical fruitiness and vanilla’s. The malty Amrut signature is still there and helps pull everything together. Small bursts of cocoa, toffee, caramel and milk chocolate. Mouth coating and delicious.

Finish: A sweet and sour finish which remains buttery and has a medium to long finish. This whisky is best warmed a little in the hand but it is sensational and places itself amongst the best
