The beautiful Aberfeldy Distillery was opened in 1898 by John Dewar and Sons. It sits on the banks of the River Tay, it is also situated by the local railway line which provided a door-to-door link to other areas of the UK. The water source is the local Pitillie Burn and the distillery produces around 2,100,000 litres of whisky every year. The spirit made at this distillery is a major contributor to the very popular Dewars blended whiskies.

Robert Burns wrote a famous poem about Aberfeldy called ‘The Banks of Aberfeldy’ and as someone who appreciated a wee dram he would have sampled the wonderful whisky from this distillery.

Expect fruity notes on the pallet. Lots of different flavours happening, oranges, spices and sweet pineapple. With a medium dry finish this is a whisky which is no like any other.

This is an independently bottled single malt whisky which has been matured in a single Chateau Lafitte wine cask. Chateau Lafitte is a very famous wine estate in France producing award winning wines. Lafite was one of four wine-producing châteaux of Bordeaux originally awarded First Growth status in the 1855 Classification, which was based on the prices and wine quality at that time. Since then, it has been a consistent producer of one of the world’s most expensive red wines.

Expect a whisky with plenty of fruity aromas and flavours. A mouth coatingly great spirit. Only 270 bottles were made available for worldwide consumption.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Orange, dried fruits, almonds and honey. Some hay notes emerge along with prunes

Palate: Thick and chewy, lots of fruits and syrupy, Blackcurrant, strawberries. Quite creamy along with stewed fruits.

Finish: Slightly grassy before sweet lingering toffee apple notes mix with raspberry syrup.
